How Is DDP Different from DDU and DAP?
DDP, DDU and DAP are all Incoterms used in international shipping, but they differ in how responsibilities are shared between the seller and buyer.
Note: Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) has been replaced by Delivered at Place (DAP), although DDU is still sometimes used informally.
Key differences at a glance
| Service |
Seller responsibilities |
Buyer responsibilities |
| DDP (Delivery Duty Paid) |
Export customs clearance International shipping and freight Insurance (if applicable) Import duties and VAT/GST Import customs clearance Final delivery |
Usually none, except unloading at their premises (if applicable) |
| DAP (Delivered at Place) |

In short, DDP removes friction for the buyer, while DAP shifts import costs and administration back to them.
