Whistl Group Invests in Bolton Parcel Sortation to Meet Growing Demand

The Whistl Group, the leading delivery management company operating across Business Mail, Doordrop Media, Fulfilment and Parcels, has invested in its first automated parcel sortation machine at its Super Depot in Bolton, located on the Logistics North site.

Installed over a three-month period, the new system marks a significant milestone in Whistl’s continued expansion within the parcels and fulfilment markets.

Supporting growth in parcels and fulfilment

As Whistl continues to scale its parcels and fulfilment operations, the business has seen sustained volume growth over the past year. To support this momentum and prepare for peak trading periods, Whistl commissioned a state-of-the-art cross belt loop sorter.

This investment ensures the business can meet increasing demand from e‑fulfilment customers who require their packets and parcels to be processed accurately, efficiently and within ever-shorter timescales.

High-speed automation for greater efficiency

Designed and installed by the Beumer Group, the 100‑metre‑long automated sorter is capable of handling up to 20,000 small to medium parcels and packets per hour. Operating at high speed, the system distributes items through 176 chutes, enabling faster throughput while maintaining safe and reliable handling.

The new sorter provides the scalability needed to support future growth, while helping Whistl maintain the high service standards its customers expect.

Investing in quality and customer service

Nick Wells, CEO of Whistl, commented:

“We continue to invest in our infrastructure to provide customers with high-quality and cost-efficient services. The new parcel sorter gives us the scalability to meet demand for increased efficiency and to handle the growing volumes our customers want us to process, without compromising on quality or customer service.”
